| New Park, PA – (October 1, 2001)
- Maize Quest the Cornfield Maze Adventure in York County delivers exciting
but fright-free and safe Halloween Happenings, guaranteed
free of ‘blood and gore’ terror, as a welcome alternative to most
available activities of the season. Designed for families, groups and kids
of all ages, the Maize Quest entertainment options include the Pumpkin
Express to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, the 10-acre maze with
“Flashlight Nights” every weekend, the all-new Maze Mountain with its 80’
giant slide, plenty of apples ripe for picking, cider on tap, plus hayrides,
campfires and picnics ready for booking. Located at
Maple Lawn Farms, New Park, PA, in Southern York County, Maize Quest is open
Friday and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 7:00
p.m. through November 4, 2001. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children
4 to 12 and cover a variety of on-site amusement options including five
mazes and Maze Mountain. Call 717.382.4878, x 4 for information,

Still the main attraction, the 10-acre corn maze themed
Deep Sea Adventure continues to make a splash with visitors who wander
its 10,000 feet of pathways cut through more than 300,000 cornstalks now
turned golden brown for Halloween. At night, the cornstalks rustle in the
wind as their angular shapes create eerie shadows for brave Maize Questers
on “Flashlight Nights.”
“At Maize Quest, visitors love our good old-fashioned
Halloween Happenings geared for fun and plenty of thrills,” said Maze Master
Hugh McPherson. “We don’t need the contrived fright or artificial scare.
It’s exciting to prowl the pathways of the maze at night with only a
flashlight!”
New this season, the four-acre pumpkin patch is loaded
with more than 1,000 bright orange jack-o-lantern wannabes ready for pickin’.
The Pumpkin Express, a tractor-pulled wagon with built-in seats,
makes hourly excursions from the Maze Command Center to the patch from 3:00
p.m. until closing so that discriminating shoppers can pluck their own.
Plenty of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes are also available in the Gift
Shop and at the nearby Maple Lawn Farms Market. Both locations stock
plenty of fresh cider for sippin’ and ripe apples for pickin’
– straight from the trees or in take-home baskets.
Topping the list of must-do activities is a climb up
followed by an 80-foot slide down Maze Mountain, created from 40,000
cubic feet of solid Pennsylvania farmland. Would-be sliders can reach the
mountain’s peak and observation deck by hiking the pathway up its backside.
New in 2001, The Rope Maze features over 1600’ of
nautical rope in paths that form a British tall ship. The Ever-Changing
Fence Maze, made of wooden gates that change patterns each week, and
The Bamboozle, the world’s first maze of living bamboo, continue to
intrigue visitors. For younger Maize Questers, nothing beats the
ever-popular Giant Straw Bale Maze as a place of delight to expend
their boundless energy. Positioned nearby, The Picnic Pavilion serves
as a place to host birthday parties, meetings and family gatherings. The
Maize Quest Command Center offers concessions and a gift shop
for guest convenience.
Maize Quest holds challenges for all types of school
groups, scout troops and youth groups who may schedule special events and
times to visit Maize Quest. Call the Maize Quest hotline at 717.382.4878, x
