| New Park, PA – (August 1, 2001) -
When Maze Master Hugh McPherson started bulldozing dirt from an old orchard
into a perfectly cone-shaped mound near the highway, passers-by grew
curious. By the time the pile reached a height of 45 feet, the neighbors
guessed ski slope. In fact, McPherson created Maze Mountain, a new
and exciting, signature entertainment feature for Maize Quest 2001,
celebrating its fifth year at Maple Lawn Farms in New Park.
“At Maize Quest, we have four unique mazes to challenge
visitors, including the intricate “Deep Sea Adventure” created by 30-year
veteran designer Dave Phillips,” said McPherson. “But even the best corn
maze is only the beginning of your adventure here. Customer service experts
say to move mountains for your guests. So we decided to do it!”
Maze Mountain rises majestically from the lowly cornfield
near Maize Quest Command Center. The observation platform at the peak’s top
affords a complete surround-view of southern York County countryside. At it
base lie five mazes: “Deep Sea Adventure,” the Ever-Changing Fence
Maze, The Giant Straw Bale Maze, The Bamboozle, a maze of living bamboo
plants, and the all-new Rope Maze, a design patterned after a British
sailing ship made of 1500 feet of 2-inch nautical rope.
New Attraction Offers More Than a View
Visitors hike up the rear slope of Maze Mountain not only
to catch the view. Down the steep mountain’s face runs a giant 60-foot
tube slide that promises to deliver a speedy ride for thrill-seekers of
all ages to a pit of soft sand at the bottom. Another option is to walk down
the trail.
