New Park, PA – (July 2002) – Set amid the rolling farmland of southern
Pennsylvania lies the world’s only multi-maze theme park, the most unique
entertainment park on the planet. With the internationally franchised
cornfield maze, Maize Quest®, as the
headliner, the attraction boasts 7 mazes made of 7 different materials and
each maze presents its own theme and challenge for young and old alike.
Located at the 1,400-acre Maple Lawn Farms in York County, the park opens
August 10 and runs through November 3.“We’ve
created a family-fun environment by using mazes as the featured attraction,”
said Maze Master Hugh McPherson. “People are inherently intrigued by the
challenge of a maze and we wrap entertainment and education around that
natural inquisitiveness.”
The 7 mazes of 7 materials consist of the following:
The Rope Maze, featuring over 1,600 feet of nautical rope in paths that
form a British tall ship; The Ever-Changing Fence Maze, made of
wooden gates that change patterns each week; The Bamboozle, the
world’s first maze of living bamboo; The Giant Straw Bale Maze, soft
but sturdy and ever-popular with the kids; The Tortoise & Toad (Meadow)
Maze, with trails through wildflowers and grasses; The Stone
Labyrinth, featuring pathways of pure white sand edged in river rocks
leading to and from a 31,000-pound spire-like centerpiece boulder; and of
course McPherson’s signature maze, Maize Quest®
2002, with intricate trails cut into a 10-acre cornfield.
Because of the variety of materials and designs, patrons
can enjoy a full day at the park and still come back for more. In addition
to the variety of mazes and materials, McPherson has incorporated story
lines, games and agricultural education into each maze in the theme park
experience. “We deliver an environment where both the adults and the
children have so much fun they don’t even realize they are also learning,”
he said.
The largest of the mazes, Maize Quest®
2002 draws tens of thousands of visitors to a new design and theme each
year. 2002’s theme, “The Outback Adventure,” features over 10,000 feet of
pathways cut from over 300,000 living cornstalks into the shape of a giant
kangaroo with a joey in its pouch. The Maize Quest®
franchise began at the Maple Lawn Farms location in 1997 and expanded to 28
locations in 15 states and Canada in 2002.
The theme park is located in New Park, PA in southern York
County. The 2002 season opens on Saturday, August 10 at 11:00am and runs
through November 03. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 11:00am – 10:00pm and
Sunday 1:00pm – 7:00pm. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for children
